Canada Summer Jobs 2017 Application Period Extended

Summer work experience for students helps them prepare for good, well-paying jobs as they start their careers—strengthening our middle class and keeping our economy growing..

To get a greater number of Canadian youth working this summer, the deadline for the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) employer application period has been extended. All not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with up to 50 employees will have another two-weeks to apply for funding from the Government of Canada.

The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program creates summer job opportunities and valuable work experience for full-time students aged 15 to 30 years old.

In Surrey Centre, the priorities include:

• organizations that provide services at cultural or sporting community events;

• organizations that provide programs and services to low income families, seniors, homelessness and youth at risk;

• organizations that help to integrate government assisted refugees;

• organizations that assist with the integration of children;

• organizations that provide programs and services for people with substance abuse issues including drug use prevention and/or mental illness;

• employers involved in activities celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation;

• employers focused on business improvement, revitalization, growth or enhancement; and

• employers focused on technology and innovation as a start-up company

Nevertheless, all eligible applicants are encouraged to apply. Employers are also invited to include applications that complement this year’s identified national priorities, which include:

• employers involved in the welcome and settlement of immigrants (including Syrian refugees) in Canada;

• employers that hire Indigenous people;

• opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information, and Communications Technology (ICT);

• employers involved in activities celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation; and

Don’t wait, apply today! The application period has been extended until February 3, 2017. Applicants approved for funding will be able to hire students as early as April 2017.
